Auger

Problem Cause Solution
Auger won’t turn. No power. Engage PTO on tractor.
  PTO failure. Repair of replace tractor PTO. See your tractor dealer.
  Broken shear pin. Replace shear pin. Identify cause of failure and rectify before resuming work.
PH Digger stalls. Running too slow. Increase RPM of engine.
  Digging too fast. Lower hitch at a slower rate.  Raise auger almost out of hole more frequently to alow the flighting to clear itself.

Boxblade

Problem Cause Solution
Blade/ shanks won’t penetrate soil. Traveling too fast. Slow down.
  Incorrect blade angle. Check and reset frame and blade angle.
  Incorrect three point mode. Set in “float” mode.
  Blade too light. Add weight to frame. Do not add more than 25 lbs. per foot.
Blade or shanks dig in too much. Blade too heavy.

Remove weight from blade.  Set hitch in “position” mode and control depth manually.
Blade or shanks skip over surface. Traveling too fast. Slow down.

Cultivator

Problem Cause Solution
Won’t penetrate soil. Hard ground. Replace shovels if badly worn, be sure hitch is in “float” or “draft” mode, or add weight to the frame.
High power required. Wrong shovels. Install smaller shovels.
  Shovels worn. Replace shovels.

Dirtscoop

Problem Cause Solution
Bucket won’t dig in. Wrong bucket angle. Adjust turnbuckle to set bucket angle.
  Wrong hitch setting. Set hitch in “draft” or “float” mode.
Bucket digs in too much. Wrong bucket angle. Adjust turnbuckle to set bucket angle.
  Wrong hitch setting. Set hitch in “position” and control depth manually.

Discharrow

Problem Cause Solution
Uneven ridges. (Ridger) Wrong three point hitch setting. Put three point hitch in “float” to follow ground contour.
Blades don’t penetrate ground. Wrong gang angle. Increase gang angle.
  Hard ground. Add weight to frame, or make more passes.
Blades cut too deep. Wrong gang angle. Decrease gang angle.
  Machine too heavy. Remove weight from th frame.
  Soft soil. Decrease gang angle.
Uneven worked surface. Uneven frame. Level frame side to side and front to rear.

Dualgrader

Problem Cause Solution
Blades won’t penetrate soil. Traveling too fast. Slow down.
  Incorrect blade angle. Check and reset frame and blade angle.
  Incorrect three point mode. Set in “float” mode.

Farmblade

Problem Cause Solution

  Blade too light. Add weight to frame. Do not exceed 25 lbs. per ft.
Blade digs in too much. Blade too heavy. Remove weight from blade.  Set hitch in position mode to control depth manually.
Blade skips over surface. Traveling too fast. Slow down.

Graderblade

Problem Cause Solution
Blade won’t penetrate surface. Traveling too fast. Slow down.

Middlebuster

Problem Cause Solution
Won’t penetrate soil. Hard ground. Replace shovel if badly worn, be sure hitch is in “float” or “draft” mode, set shank angle, or add weight to the frame.
High power required. Wrong shank angle. Reset shank angle.
  Shovel worn. Replace shovel.

Moldboardplow

Problem Cause Solution
Plow doesn’t penetrate ground. Wrong hitch setting. Set 3-point hitch to “float” mode.  Level frame.
  Hard ground. Add weight to frame.
  Worn components. Replace shear, shin, or landside as required.
Plow goes too deep. Too heavy. Remove weight from frame.
  Needs gauge wheel. Install gauge wheel.
Plow plugs. Trash building on shin. Install coulter.
Hard to pull. Rusty moldboard. Clean buildup from moldboard.
Shear bolt breaks. Obstructions. Clear obstructions before starting.

Rockrake

Problem Cause Solution
Trash isn’t picked up ahead of tines. Goes between tines. Allow trash to build up.
  Tines skip over ground. Slow down. Set hitch in “float” mode.
  Wrong rake angle. Increase rake angle to form a windrow.
  Tines too high. Raise wheels.

Rotarycutter

Problem Cause Solution
Cutter doesn’t turn. Slip clutch slips. Tighten or replace slip clutch
  PTO clutch slips. Repair tractor PTO clutch.
Poor cutting job. Traveling too fast. Slow down.
  Blades dull. Sharpen blades.
  Groves in grass. Bent blade. Replace the blade.
  Scalping. Raise machine.
  Grass being left. Slow down and/ or extend top link.
Gearbox seal leaking. Grease overheating. Drill 3/16” hole in level plug and insert cotter pin. Hole will act as breather and prevent pressurizing.
Noisy gearbox. Poor gear mesh. Remove input shaft and gear. Replace worn parts. Reassemble and use shims to give gear backlash of 0.006-0.018” measured at 2 13/16” from sjaft centerline.
Clutch slips. Overloaded. Slow travel speed.
  Clutch loose. Tighten springs on clutch plates
  Clutch worn out. Replace clutch components or assembly as required.
Vibration. Out of balance. Check for bent, damaged, or broken blades. Replace or repair as required. Also check the blade timing.  The blade mounting should be vertical on one rotor and horizontal on the other.

Rotarytiller

Problem Cause Solution
Rotor won’t turn. Slip clutch loose. Tighten slip clutch or replace friction plates.
  PTO clutch slipping. Set PTO clutch. See tractor manual.
  Rotor plugged. Unplug rotor.
  Hex shaft disengaged. Loosen lock collars, slide shaft back in place, lock collar next to gearbox.
Untilled ground behind machine. 3-point hitch not set. Set 3 point hitch to “float”
  Traveling too fast. Slow down.
  Ground very hard. Slow down. Make two passes.
  Machine not leveled. Adjust screw jack on three point arm. Adjust skid plates.
Seed bed lumpy. Traveling too fast. Slow down. Make two passes.
Uneven seed bed. Machine not level. Level machine.
  Rear gate too high. Lower rear gate.

Scissorlift

Problem Cause Solution
Three point hitch won’t raise. Load too heavy. Reduce load.
  Tractor hydraulics worn out. Fix tractor hydraulics.
Poor steering. Load too heavy. Reduce load or add weights to the front of the tractor.

Spiketoothharrow

Problem Cause Solution
Spikes don’t penetrate ground. Wrong hitch setting. Lower hitch.
  Hard ground. Add weight to frame.
Spikes cut too deep. Machine too heavy. Remove weight from frame.
Uneven worked surface. Uneven frame. Level frame side to side.
  Machine skipping. Slow down until skipping stops.
  Chains too tight. Provide more slack in the chains by lowering hitch or lengthening chains.

Spreader

Problem Cause Solution
Spinner won’t turn. No power. Engage PTO on tractor.
  PTO failure. Repair or replace tractor PTO. See your tractor dealer.
No material on the right side of the machine. Vanes in wrong position. Move the two adjustable vanes in position two.

Subsolier

Problem Cause Solution
Won’t penetrate soil. Hard ground. Replace blade if badly worn, be sure hitch is in “float” or “draft” mode, set shank angle, or add weight to the frame.
High power required. Wrong shank angle. Reset shank angle.
  Blade worn. Replace blade.

SSMB15

Problem Cause Solution
Won’t penetrate soil. Hard ground. Replace shovel if badly worn, be sure hitch is in “float” or “draft” mode, set shank angle, or add weight to the frame.
High power required. Wrong shank angle. Reset shank angle.
  Shovel worn. Replace shovel.
  Wrong shovels. Install smaller shovel.
  Going too deep. Raise the unit a little.
Front of tractor is light. Hitch load too heavy. Add weights to front of tractor, or reduce hitch load.
